Thank you so much for your interest in our studio!  If you have commissioned Lesley to create portraits for you or are just interested in more information, you've come to the right place.  This section contains answers to many of your questions.  If you happen to have any questions not covered here, please just ask!  We are always delighted to hear from you!

Our Approach

There is nothing we want more than to create the portrait you want.  What does this mean exactly?  For starters, we will take time before the session to discuss your ideas and needs.  If you are considering a session at your home, we can stop by to help you identify the areas most suited for photography - this will help ensure your session time is as productive as possible.

We like doing different types of portraiture!  We will not limit you to only Black & White or insist that your child not play dress-up in their favorite costume.  We realize that sometimes Grandma and Grandpa would enjoy receiving a more traditional family portrait with a studio-style backdrop.  We also know that some of the best portraits are created by taking the kids to the park and just letting things unfold ...

The Session:

"Where does the session take place?"

A:  Sessions are either held at the studio or on location.  Our studio is located in the Cedar Park area.  We will provide directions with your information packet at the time your session is scheduled.

"How long will my session last?"

A:  Although sessions may last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, the typical session lasts about an hour.  Newborn sessions are generally scheduled for additional studio time to allow a slower pace.  Lesley wants everyone to feel happy and relaxed.

"How many pictures do you take?"

A:  Lots!  Honestly we never really keep count, but there will be a number of different poses taken.   Lesley will select the very best of the images to show you at the presentation appointment.  Most clients express delight at having so many beautiful images to choose from.

"My child just got a bump, bruise, or scratch and her session is tomorrow!  Do I have to reschedule?"

A:  Most likely this will not be necessary.  It is very common for babies and children to have "boo-boos" and we are prepared for this.  Retouching of all your finished portraits is part of our commitment to excellence.  Retouching of Originals (proofs) is also available for a small charge.  Please do not put make-up or cover-up on your child as this only makes retouching more difficult.  Lesley is always available to discuss any of your concerns prior to your session.

"My child woke up ill on the day of his session.  Now what?"

A:  Although we normally require 48 hours notice to reschedule a session, we realize that children do get sick at inopportune times!  If your child is ill on the day of his or her session, please call us to discuss the specifics and we will do our best to reschedule your session.

"When should I plan on arriving for my session?"

A:  All sessions are by appointment only.  We recommend arriving on time.  Early arrivals will likely experience a wait while another session is wrapping up.  We do finish all sessions on time, so arriving late will only result in a shorter time for your own session.  If you anticipate being more than 15 minutes late, it is likely you will need to be rescheduled for another date.  Please note that there maybe a rebooking fee of $50 if this occurs.

"Should I bring a friend or family member to help with the children?"

A:  Lesley prefers to keep a very calm atmosphere in the studio as a child can quickly become overwhelmed with new surroundings and too many people.  We have found that the best portraits often result when mom (or dad) steps out of the room and Lesley has time to work with the child one-on-one.  In certain situations, such as with twins or siblings it may be a good idea to bring one helper.  If possible, we strongly recommend scheduling one child per session as this has proven to be the most productive.

"Can I have both black & white and color?"

A:  Absolutely!  Lesley typically photographs the entire session in color and will select the best poses for viewing in black & white, sepia, or selective color.  It is important though to determine before hand what the main goal for the session is as this will be important when making clothing selections.  We recommend selecting one outfit for your child they often do not like having their clothes changed.

Clothing:

"What do you recommend for my child or family to wear?"

A:  Lesley's goal is to keep the subject the main area of visual interest.  This means that the clothing must be kept as simple as possible for a clean and classic look.  Please do not bring stripes, patterns, or clothing with bold logos.  A natural look is best achieved with simple, casual clothing paired with bare feet.  If we are photographing your family it is very important that all clothing be kept in a similar style and color.  Please see our guide to clothing selection for additional information.

"What colors are best for black & white portraits?"

A:  It is not so much the color that matters as the TONE.  Any of the darker colors will work, such as dark green, navy blue, dark red or maroon, dark gray, or black.  Please avoid white clothing as this is generally not suited for black and white portraiture.

Portrait Selection:

"When will my proofs be ready?"

A:  At the end of your portrait session, we will schedule a convenient time for you to come in and view the Originals.  Typically this meeting takes place one to three weeks after your session.  Originals are presented via an innovative multimedia slideshow which always draws rave reviews from our clients and has been know to produce a tear or two!

"How long will my Presentation appointment last?"

A:  Most Presentation appointments last 1 to 2 hours.  If you feel you will need more time than this please let Lesley know in advance.

"Do I make my selections at the Presentation appointment?"

A:  Yes.  This time is set aside especially for you to decide which poses, sizes, and finishes you want for your finished pieces.  Lesley will be there to assist you every step of the way!

"Can I bring family members with me?"

A:  Of course you can!  Anyone who will be significant in making purchase decisions should come with you as you will be placing your order at this meeting.  Although we do welcome children at this appointment they often become bored and restless.  You may find your visit to be more relaxed if you make other arrangements for them.

"I have out-of-town family members who want to purchase portraits from my session.  How can they make their selections?"

A:  In general we find that other family members are very happy with selections you make on their behalf.  As an additional service, you may choose to have a private web gallery published on our website AFTER you make your selections.  This service is available for a fee on initial orders of $750 or more.  Please contact the studio for additional information on this service.

"How long are my images archived?"

A:  Images selected at the presentation appointment for finished portraits are archived indefinitely.  If the entire proof collection is purchased then the entire set of images is archived.  Images not selected for enlargement are removed from our files after the presentation appointment.

Payment:

"What forms of payment do you accept?"

A:  We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.  Please make checks payable to Lesley Freeman.

"When is full payment due?"

A:  Due to the custom nature of the prints and frames, payment in full is required at the time your order is placed.

"Is there sales tax on my order?"

A:  Yes, Texas sales tax of 8.25% is charged on all orders and session fees.

"When will I receive my finished portraits?"

A:  Good things take time!  :)  Please allow 4 to 8 weeks for completion of your portrait order.  Depending on the complexity and framing some orders may take longer.  We view your portraits as an important investment in heirloom quality pieces that we do not want to rush.
